PMHNP Billing, Credentialing & Practice Operations

We handle medical billing, credentialing and payer contracts for psychiatric nurse practitioners nationwide, from a solo PMHNP opening a first practice to a group adding prescribers. Credentialing is a one time setup fee per provider plus $350 to $500 per payer, and Ongoing Billing runs from 7% of collections down to 4.5% by practice size, with a $300 monthly minimum for a solo provider.

FAQ

PMHNP Questions We Hear Most

Can A PMHNP Bill Insurance Under Their Own Name?

Yes. Once enrolled, a PMHNP bills Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers under their own NPI. Medicare pays 85% of the physician fee schedule under the NP’s own NPI (42 CFR 414.56); some settings allow incident-to or split/shared at 100%. See our billing and coding guide.

How Is PMHNP Billing Different From Psychiatrist Billing?

The CPT codes are largely the same. What’s different is payment and enrollment: the Medicare 85% reduction, incident-to and supervision rules, and state Medicaid and scope policies.

How Long Does PMHNP Credentialing Take?

Plan for 60 to 120 days per payer, and longer for Medicaid or a closed panel. We’ll manage the whole queue for you. See our credentialing guide.

Do You Work With Brand-New PMHNP Practices?

Yes. You don’t need your business, Tax ID or NPI first. We walk you through them, then set up the payer enrollment, EHR and billing your package includes. See how to start a PMHNP practice.
